Made in the U.S.A. - Built by Greg Roberts
This is the Alura A15/MT1, a three-way, hybrid bass-reflex horn speaker. This speaker has tight, deep bass, wide dynamic range, correct tonal balance, and an expansive soundstage. The Alura A15/MT1 is a two-piece cabinet. In the lower cabinet there is a high-sensitivity 15" woofer in a bass reflex configuration. There is an extra large port that is tuned and blended perfectly with the front-mounted driver for smooth bass extension.
The upper cabinet houses a large, wooden, tractrix flared midrange horn, a 2" outlet compression driver, an elliptical tractrix flare tweeter horn, a 1" outlet compression tweeter driver, and a hand-wired crossover network designed and built by Greg Roberts. Cabinet construction is robust, as you would expect from the Volti laminated Baltic Birch curved panels, and Baltic Birch plywood used throughout the cabinet construction. The bass cabinet sides are one-inch thick, made with eight layers of 1/8" material that we laminate up in our shop with vacuum bags. This is a seriously stout cabinet that will last many generations. Durability is a key element in all Volti Audio products.
Veneers are custom, and applied in a vacuum bag for a superior flat, smooth finish. Satin lacquer and "Volti Black" lacquer paint provide a beautiful and durable finish. Shown here without grills, but grills for the top and bottom sections are provided. The grills attach with magnets to the cabinet, and a variety of cloth colors are available.
The Alura A15/MT1 costs $13,900 per pair. Higher grade veneer and finish options are available at additional cost, please inquire. Quick Specs:

Several people expressed interest in purchasing the Aluras at AXPONA Chicago 2013, but
I was really glad that Dave Spella was the one to pull the trigger first. Dave's a great
customer and we're really happy to have him on-board with Volti Audio. Below is an email
I received from Dave after he received his speakers.
Greg,
I've had a few days of extensive, enjoyable listening to music through the Alura.
Prior to AXPONA 2013, I confess I was an audiophile in a rut. I had been satisfied with my rig,
but I was also becoming restless. I sensed my speaker system was "trying" to sound live - sometimes with
success, but mostly failing. So I arrived at AXPONA, my first audio show, anticipating that I might be
inspired by a revelatory sound.
As luck would have it, I ventured into the Volti Alura room early Friday afternoon. It immediately became
my benchmark for "best of show". The typical audiophile terminologies apply - fast, articulate, dynamic
with an encompassing sound field. But there is much more which I have fully realized since I've had them
home. Suffice to say I became enchanted by the Alura. Although I had some expectation to be
"wowed" by a sound, I had no intention of making a major purchase as current life circumstances have been challenging.
But with the support and encouragement of my wife Jean, and easy negotiations with you, we took delivery of
the well-crated and packed speakers.
As you know, I had some concerns regarding placement and interaction with my equipment and critically, with my room.
My amps are not in the same league as what was used in the show. What kind of first few watts
quality would I be able to achieve? By necessity, the Alura are positioned on the short wall of our living
room. Would the speakers be able to breathe? Would that vast sound field I heard at the show
be realized in this compromised set-up?
The answers have come quickly. But let me describe the results by how I'm hearing and enjoying music.
And there are of course, the properties of the Alura make this revelatory experience possible.
Effortlessness. Ease. Realism. Scale. Depth.
Impact. Richness.
I had no knowledge, preconceptions or expectations of the "horn" universe. Honestly, the technology
isn't very important to me except as an explanation of what the heck I'm hearing, especially the huge, encompassing
sound field and spot-on tonality.
So once again, I view our encounter as very serendipitous, a bit of audio fate!
Thanks again for creating such a fine musical instrument and Jean and I look forward to many years of enjoying the Alura.
All the best,
The Future Lineup: The A15/MT1 is just the first model in the Alura lineup. It is probably the top model that we will offer, although I wouldn't rule out an even larger one at some point. For now, the focus will be on designing speakers with the same basic characteristics as the A15/MT1, but smaller and less expensive. The A12, which you might guess is the 12" version of the A15, will be smaller (narrower) than the A15, to fit even smaller rooms. It will be matched to the MT2 Midrange/Tweeter cabinet, that will have a different midrange horn, mid driver, and tweeter than the MT1, to better match the smaller size and lower price of the A12. This model will be A12/MT2. We are planning to develop a model A102/MT3, which would have a dual 10" bass reflex cabinet that is even narrower than the A12, and the MT3 would be yet another Midrange/Tweeter cabinet using two very high-sensitivity 5" cone midrange drivers, a compression tweeter, and a crossover in each cabinet. We also are planning to develop a small floorstander that would be a single-cabinet, three-way with a 10" woofer, a 5" cone midrange, and a compression tweeter, selling at a lower price point. We're going to work hard to get all these models developed and in production by the end of 2013, so keep your ears perked for these new Volti products in the coming months. More coming soon
