Jamborees are a terrific sounding bass bin. They have two 15" woofers per cabinet that face towards the rear of the cabinet, and they are designed with a single fold, that turns the wave only one time, back out to the mouth. Physically they are about the same size as a Klipsch Jubilee bass bin. They actually do not take up any more space than a Klipsch Khorn, the difference is in the wings that stick out farther than the Khorns do. They do not need to be in corners to work, but they will reach deeper in the bass and provide more bass if located in corners. I've done numerous comparisons of them to my Khorns and my Klipsch Jubilees, and they are a better sounding bass bin overall. They have the same kind of low end grunt and in-your-face directness that the Klipsch Jubilees provide, but they are "tighter" and have better bass tone definition. Both the Jubilees and the Jamborees have an incredibly strong, heavy bass that is very impressive. My only criticism of both designs, and this is in comparison to the Khorn bass, is that they are a little too much in your face. They remind me of a PA system; a little coarse and unrefined. The refined bass that the Khorn provides as it fills the room and comes around the room from both sides is very satisfying to me. Ideally, I would like my own system in my living room to incorporate the refinement of the Khorn bass with a little bit of the strong and direct bass that you get with either the Jubilee or the Jamboree. This desire is what is driving me to work on a new cornerhorn speaker design based on the Khorn bass bin design, but also has me thinking of refining the design of the Jamboree to be more like a Khorn! LOL So many possibilities for the future . . . . . Dana Moore is the designer and patent holder on the Jamboree speaker. I think he's done a terrific job with this design, and although the plans have a few bugs in them, they are very well drawn out and easy to figure out. So if you'd like to build a pair of these for yourself, please contact me and I'll put you in touch with Dana. He has been very generous in allowing people to build these for their own personal use, and he provides the plans to you. I can also build these for you, or provide the parts for you to assemble them yourself. I will contact Dana and negotiate the price for the license to build each pair for sale and include that cost in with the cost of parts or finished cabinets. Dana's prices for this are very reasonable. The photographs below are documenting the pair that I built for myself, in my shop in Benton Maine, February 2008.
Here's a few pictures of them in my living room. When I first hooked them up, I used my Khorn tops for the high end. Later I tried them with my Klipsch K402/K69 horns/drivers in place of the Jubilee bass bins, with all else being the same. The last trial was with Fc260 horns, BMS drivers, and Beyma tweeters, with a passive crossover network I built. Sorry, no pictures of those other setups.
Update - 9/2010 These are now for sale. I have done some cosmetic work to them - painted them and sprayed lacquer on the veneered fronts. I added hardwood trim to the top and bottom edges. I also made grill frames for the bass horn mouths. Here are some photos of how they look now.
These are not in mint condition, they do have a few cosmetic flaws. Also,
I don't want you to get the idea that this is one of my premium finishes either.
The finish and cosmetic condition are good, but there are little issues
here and there.
The tops have a few scuffs in the paint.
Here's one of those little issues I mentioned. The trim does not line
up properly with the front panels at the top. There are a couple of places
like this.
Sometimes these speakers look different when they are up on dollies, so here's a
picture of one right on the floor.
Those are my Klipsch Jubilee speakers in the background. The Jamborees
actually sound better than the Jubilees. They have the same deep, strong
bass slam, but they have better definition and tonal qualities to the bass.
They are also just tighter sounding. I've had the opportunity to do controlled
listening tests between the Jubilee and the Jamboree, and there's no question which
of the two horns I would choose to be in my living room.
Here they are with the Lavera horn sitting on top.
So there you have it, powerful sounding bass horns, very high quality construction, loaded and tuned with new Klipsch K33 woofers, and pretty good looking too. I'm asking only $3,500 (shipping included!) for the pair, which includes the four grill frames that I made (without cloth and not attached), and professional crating. If you would like the grill frames finished with cloth and attached, add $400. Please email if you have any questions. |
