This is the first version of the Vittora speaker, only two pairs were built. Loosely based on the Klipsch La Scala, but with much higher performance. They are a three-way design, fully horn-loaded with a Crites 15" woofer, a B&C 2" midrange driver, a Fc280 tractrix midrange horn, and a Ciare 1.26 tweeter that is integrated into the front of the midhorn.
The Vittora is a fully horn-loaded, three-way, high-efficiency speaker system that delivers wide dynamic range, high output, and extremely low distortion.
The Vittora utilizes a 15" woofer in a folded horn to produce solid, accurate, bass. Even at high output levels, the distortion from this horn is undetectable, and the result is a quickness and definition that you can only get with a horn design.
Cabinet construction is all Baltic Birch plywood, with no MDF used anywhere, and the bass cabinets are fully braced. The Vittora is built to be a solid performer for a lifetime of use. The Vittora uses a large wooden midrange horn with a tractrix flare. In fact, the midrange horn takes up the entire top of the cabinet behind the grill cloth. The horn has a 2" throat and uses a large-format midrange compression driver with a 3-1/2" voice coil. This combination of large, solidly built wooden horn with a large throat and huge midrange compression driver results in a midrange sound that is effortless and easy to listen to. There is no constriction of the sound through a tiny throat, there is no edginess, graininess, or honky sound that so many other horn designs suffer from. The Vittora midrange is smooth and articulate, dynamic and uncolored. The midrange is truly the heart of this loudspeaker, and the listener is rewarded with a musicality from this speaker that is very rare in this industry, at any price. Here's a picture of the midrange horn, showing how the compression tweeter is mounted into the mouth of the horn.
This Italian made tweeter is one of the smoothest sounding hi-efficiency tweeters available. The frequency response curve of this tweeter stays nearly flat all the way up to 20Khz. By contrast, most compression tweeters have a frequency response curve that rises into the 8Khz - 12Khz region and then drops off going up to 20Khz. The peaky response of most other compression tweeters is the reason so many of them sound like PA tweeters - somewhat harsh or shrill sounding. The tweeter used in the Vittora has been chosen because it sounds more like a true high-end audiophile tweeter. The mounting location of the tweeter in the midrange horn is an elegant solution for space savings, aesthetics, and for a superior integration with the midrange frequencies. The crossover networks used in the Vittora speakers are built with care and attention to detail.
These crossover networks use very high quality components and construction techniques. They are split, so they fit on each side of the midrange driver, and allow for easy access for adjustments. It took hundreds of hours of time to develop these networks and properly voice them for this system, and the result is a seemless and controlled sound that provides a wonderful stereo image and soundstage for the listener. The Volti Audio crossovers can be left as they are set, or they offer user-friendly options for tailoring the sound of your speakers to suit your tastes.
For more information on the crossovers, Click here. Internal wiring is tinned copper, twisted-pair with gold-plated ends. Inputs, which can be bi-wired, are through heavy-duty, five-way binding posts.
The pair of Vittora speakers shown here, which are currently for sale, are veneered in Bosse Cedar with black cloth. But you may have your choice of veneer, so please inquire about what is available and the costs. The veneer is finished with several coats of catalyzed lacquer with a medium rubbed finish. It is a beautiful, hard, and durable finish that is smooth to the touch and easy to keep clean. The backs, insides, and bottoms are completely finished with paint or lacquered veneer. Everywhere you look on the Vittora you see craftmanship, detail, and quality.
Specifications: Frequency response is 50Hz to 20Khz

The first pair of Vittora speakers were just delivered to my customer.
Here's his first email to me since receiving them:
Hi Greg,
I just got the Vittoras delivered this evening. I didn't have the help
to get them into my livingroom, but I did get the packing crate totally opened, and
OMG! You certainly were right when you said I would like the black grill
covers, and I most certainly do. My girlfriend was just blown away at
the the incredible veneer and the sheen of your new clearcoat. I just
stood there for the better part of an hour taking them in and I'll just have to wait
until I get a buddy over here who can help me move them in and I can hear them.
To say that I am pleased is an understatement. I am very pleased, and I will
let you know when I have a chance to hear them.
Thank you so very much, Dale. Here's what Dale's speakers look like
Here are excerpts from Dale after his first listening session:
"Wow Greg, this is the kind of sound my ears have been searching for!"
"Other high-end speakers I've owned have left me cold, but the Vittora speakers
are warm and full sounding - not in your face, but enveloping.
They are like "comfort food" for the ears!"
"The crossovers - oh the crossovers! I thought they looked beautiful
in the pictures on your website, but the real treat is seeing them in reality.
Just handling them and wiring them up was such fun. Having the mid-bass
settings on the crossovers provides great control over setting up the speakers for
the best sound."
"And that huge issue I had with the Klipsch La Scalas resonating like crazzzy, is
not even the slightest bit in evidence now. Thank you very much for that!"
"Now the bass is perfect to me. It is full and meaty, and with that
magnificent XO I can tune it just the way I want."
"I am a huge Jackson Browne fan and I am listening to his Time the Conqueror
album and the bottom end is defined, substantial and warm. I absolutely
love the bass, it is as perfect as I could imagine it. I will not be
using any sort of subwoofer with this system, the sound is very full and
satisfying. I am very, very happy with these speakers on every
level. They are definitely worth the price to me."
"The Vittora speakers are exactly what I was looking for."

I urge my customers to compare the performance and quality level of the Vittora to any other fully horn loaded speaker on the market. I think you'll find that there is very little that can compare, especially in this price point. For instance, take a look at Avantgarde speakers. These are highly regarded horn speakers from Germany that utilize large-format midrange horns, high quality components and cabinet construction. There are many similarities between the Volti Audio speakers and those from Avantgarde, however, the lowest priced fully horn-loaded speaker from Avantgarde is $51,000 per pair. As another example, look at the Klipsch La Scala II speaker. Yes, they sell for less money at $6K per pair, but they simply are not in the same league when it comes to the performance and construction quality. La Scala II's have unbraced bass horn sides made of 1" MDF, they have a relatively tiny 11/16" diameter throat on the midrange horn with a 1" compression driver attached, and the sound quality from the LSII is just not anywhere near what the Vittora has to offer. Also, the price of the LSII climbs substantially if you decide you'd like to have a veneer that is different than the three stock choices. Lots of photos here, for a really detailed look at the Vittora from all angles and in different lighting, including a few photos of the contruction.
